As soon as the aritation had been brought to my
notice by telegram from His Majesty's Consul General,
I lost no time in urging the Waiwuru to instruct the
Viceroy to take measuree to repress it. A tel crem in
that sense was accordingly dosratched to the Vienroy
by the Central Government on the 11th ultimo and on the
14th in 7xcellency issued a proclamation anjoining
up on all and aundry to abstain from any further
incitemente to disorder. His Excellency pressed *.*ox
to reopen the enquiry, but the latter explained fat
such action was Leyond his rowers and that any
charge could only be heard by the Portuguese Concul, who
had claimed jurisdiction.
On receiving a request to hold an enquiry, the
Portuguese Consul was at first inclined to "efure,
there being no Preah ovidence to justify such & evrne,
